Abstract

211,019. Hollingworth, E., (Crompton & Knowles Loom Works). March 13, 1923. Welt-feeler arrangements.-A box-like rectan. gular slide 34, Figs. 1 and 4, movable in a casing 30 is formed with several toothed weft-engaging surfaces 35, 36, 37, between which two or more sets of weft-engaging teeth 41, 42, Fig. 3, on a member 39, Figs. 1 and 3, are movable, these teeth preferably having bevelled sides so as to prevent shearing action with the fixed members 35, 36, 37. The member 39 is pivoted on an eccentric stud or screw 40 in the slide 34 and has an arm 46 engaged by a hook 44 and lug 45 on a rod 43 having a doubledover end engaging a horizontal lever 47 pivoted on a stud or screw 48 on the slide 34. A spring-controlled arm 51 on a stud 52 engages the lever 47 whereby the slide 34 and the detecting-members are moved to the position shown in Figs. 1 and 8, a stop-screw 49 on the rod 43 engaging the casing. When the detectors are engaged by a weft carrier having a sufficient supply of weft thereon, swinging movement of the detector 39 is prevented and the slide is moved directly back, but if the weft is substantially exhausted, the detector swings on its pivot, as shown in Fig. 11, whereby a relative movement between the rod 43 and the slide results, and the spring-controlled arm 51 moves the lever 47 about its pivot 48, so that this lever acts on a projecting portion 27, Fig. 10, of a forked arm 26, thereby turning a shaft 25 carrying an arm 24 connected to a controlling member or rod 23. This member then moves into the path of an actuator and weft-replenishment is caused, the member remaining in operative position until the next beat-up, at which time a filled weft carrier engages the weft detectors and moves the slide forwards, whereby the parts are returnd to normal position. The detecting surface 36 may beformed as a separate plate 36<a> positioned between the surfaces 35, 37 by spacing-blocks 38.
