Abstract

210,870. Gr÷nqvist, A. Nov. 8, 1922. Cementation.-Iron and steel which has been subjected to the usual cementation process is cooled to approximately 300‹ C. by dipping into a bath containing sulphite lixiviation water and metal salts which produce thereon a deposit of crystals in the form of a thick airtight crust. The iron &c. is then heated until the crust has been vaporized and is then quenched in the usual manner. The bath usually contains 8 parts of raw or inspissated sulphite lixiviation water of 35-38 BÚ. 3 parts of disodium phosphate, ¢ part of potassium ferrocyanide, part of caustic soda and 6-8 parts of water. The material used in the cementation process comprises 1/3 part of disodium phosphate added to a mixture of 3 parts of potassium ferricyanide, 1¢ parts of potassium chromate or bichromate, ¢ part of potassium ferrocyanide and 20-30 parts of charcoal.
