Abstract

A rustproofing solution for treating iron or steel is formed by dissolving iron sulphide and sodium carbonate in a concentrated aqueous solution of phosphoric acid. In an example 140 grams of pulverized iron sulphide mixed with 40 grams sodium carbonate are dissolved in 1 litre of orthophosphoric acid containing 400 c.c. of acid of a concentration of 83 per cent, the solution is filtered, and diluted to form a rustproofing bath, which is used at a temperature of about 100 DEG C.
