Abstract

210,466. Woodall, Duckham, & Jones (1920), Ltd., and Duckham, Sir A. W. July 29, 1922. Carbonizing processes.-In carbonizing processes in which the coked material leaves the carbonizing chamber suspended in volatile products the hot segregated particles of the mixture are collected and compressed, and where the proportion of condensation is sufficient additional coke dust or the like may be introduced. In briquetting coal the process is so conducted that the particles are coated with the final residue of their volatile constituents which, together with the condensed vapours of heavier pitch oils form the binding agent. Pulverized coal is fed on to the surface of molten lead in a bath a and is caused to pass through the metal in the form of a thin layer on a roller d. Evolved gases escape through a pipe e and carry with them carbonized coal particles which are delivered between briquetting drums g. The briquettes are collected and remain in a chamber i until cool. When the character of the coal is such that the condensate is sufficiently bituminous finely divided coke may be introduced through a pipe n. Specifications 174,974 and 192,572 are referred to.
