Abstract
210,273. Bush, P. F. W. Jan. 19, 1923. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Pumping-machines; casings; deflectors; impeller blades; impellers having oppositely rotating parts.-A pump delivering fluid axially without change of direction comprises one or more impellers located in the hollow shaft of an electric motor housed within the pump casing. A fixed spindle 14 is secured by means of deflector blades 11 to a bush 13 fitting tightly in flanged union pieces 10 fixed to the casing 2 and adapted to be connected up to a pipe line. On the fixed spindle 14 are rotatably mounted screw impellers 15, on which are shrunk rims 16 fitting tightly within the hollow shaft 8 of the motor. The hollow shaft with the bushings in place is equal to the internal diameter of the pipe line. Stationary deflectors 17 are placed between the propellers 15. Two motor units may be constructed within a common casing with the respective impellers inter-arranged axially, one series of impellers being fixed to the hollow shaft and the other series being fixed on a spindle rotating in the opposite direction. A certain amount of fluid may be allowed to leak around the motor for cooling purposes.
