Cooling Liquids by direct contact with cooling- media.-Milk or cream in a can 2 is cooled and rendered free from odours by aspirating air therethrough. The air may be previously cooled or passed through a purifying medium such as permangate of potash contained in a vessell 11, or it may be both cooled and purified. The lid 1 of the can 2 may be seated on a rubber washer and is fitted with a short pipe 7 and valve 8 for connecting the interior to a vacuum tank or pump. The air admission pipe 9 is fitted with a valve 6 and is connected to a branched or straight perforated pipe 4 extending into the liquid, the air being drawn through the liquid by the action of the vacuum. The lid may be .provided with a sight hole. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), comprises also the following subject-matter. The invention may be applied to cream separators by allowing the cream to enter with the air, and it is stated that the apparatus may be used in pasteurizing. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
