Abstract

209,700. Hickman, W. A. Jan. 10, 1923, [Convention date]. Rudders.-In order to eliminate or at least reduce the unbalanced side thrust attendant upon the employment of semi-submerged propellers submerged surfaces 13<a>, 13b are arranged at one side or the other at both sides of the propeller. These surfaces may be identified with or employed as rudders simultaneously operated by rack and pinion gear. In this case the rudders may be mounted on pivots which are inclined outwards and operate to undercut the water at the inside of a turn. The invention is described in connection with hydroplane vessels with inverted V-section bottoms. Specifi cations 5064/11 and 3951/15 are referred to.
