Abstract
212,038. Maclaren, G., and Amphibious Motor Boat Co. Jan. 19, 1923. Boats adapted to run on land of the kind having side wheels which act as paddle wheels when the boat is in the water and as driving wheels when running on land, although a separate propeller may be provided, are also furnished below the stern with a pair of aligned wheels 10 which serve as a rudder when the boat is in the water and as steering-wheels on land. The steering- wheels are operated from the wheel 26 and screw gear is provided to enable the wheel 10 to be raised out of action. Where a separate propeller is provided, clutch gear is employed to shift the drive from the propeller to the driving wheels when the craft takes to the land. In a modification, the steering-wheels are of openspoke formation, the boat being steered when in the water by turning the wheels at right-angles to the direction of movement, the craft being controlled by the flow of water from the propeller.
