Abstract

Boron ores with addition of alkali if necessary are treated with a solution of a metal sulphate other than sodium sulphate or acid sodium sulphate capable of effecting their decomposition with the production of alkali pentaborate. Boro-natro-calcite may be treated with ferric sulphate or aluminium sulphate solution. When ferric sulphate is used, any arsenic present in the ore remains with the sludge of calcium sulphate and ferric hydroxide produced.
