Abstract
207,960. Holworthy, H. F. Oct. 27, 1922. Knives, cleaning and polishing.-A machine in which the knives may be fed continuously and are automatically ejected comprises two feltcovered discs 2 spring-pressed together and rotated by a handle 7 through gearing 8, a feedwheel 18 being arranged coplanar with the cleaning discs and driven from them through worm and skew gearing. The knives 21 are placed in radial slots in the feed-wheel and aligned by a V-shaped guide 25 so as to pass between the discs 2, the guide being also arranged so as to prevent the knives from slipping out of the slots until they reach the lower edge of the cleaning discs. The discs are rotated anticlockwise so that the knives are then withdrawn from the slots and sent down a shoot 27 into a collecting tray 28. The slots may be lined with felt and fitted with rollers 20 to protect the knife-handles, and means may be provided for adjusting the distance between the feed-wheel and the discs to take different sizes of knives.
