Magnetic speed indicators; registering distance upon counters.-In a combined speedometer and odometer a spindle 1, connected by a pulley 2 to the member of which the speed is to be measured, carries a magnet 3 acting on a disc 4<b> controlled by a spring 4<d>; the disc 4b is mounted on a shaft 4 that carries a pointer 4a moving over a dial. The body 6 of the odometer mechanism forms a bearing for the spindle 1 which carries an eccentric sheave 6<a> on which is mounted a toothed wheel 7. A spindle 7<b>, secured at one end in the body 6 and carrying the external pinions 14 of the odometer train, projects into a slot 7a in the wheel 7 and so holds it against rotation. The teeth of the wheel 7 are brought into mesh under the action of the eccentric with internal teeth on a slightly larger wheel 8 having a different number of teeth. In a modification the pinions 14 are adapted to mesh with external teeth on the figure discs of the odometer. The speed indicator may be fitted with a dial as shown, or may have figures on the side fare nf a drum, the figures then being observed through a window in the casing of the instrument.
