577,097. Recording-speedo meters. ETABLISSEMENTS E. JAEGER. May 30, 1940, No. 9475. Convention date, June 14, 1939. [Classes 106 (iii) and 106 (iv)] In a recording speedometer for vehicles comprising a totalising meter, instantaneous speed indicator and means for recording said speed by means of a stylus which can be removed from the casing, the dial comprises an observation aperture through which can be seen the stylus markings on a strip which is unwound from a roll disposed in a removable drawer, the recorded part of the strip being stored in a compartment of the drawer .so that it can be separated from the remainder of the strip after the drawer has been removed. As shown' in Fig. 10, the apparatus is provided with a speedindicating hand 27 and a totalizer 26, both actuated in usual manner. The dial of the apparatus is provided with an aperture 10 through which may be viewed a paper strip 43 carried in a removable drawer 8. On pushing in the drawer, a pinion 39 on the feed shaft: of of the paper strip meshes with a pinion geared to the speedometer drive, whereby the strip is advanced continuously from a removable roll 44. At the same time, a stylus 57, Fig. 4, actuated by gearing 68, 67, 66 from the spindle of the speed-indicating hand, moves across the strip to make a record of the speed as shown in Fig. 10. The loose end of the strip 43, after passing the opening 10 accumulates in a compartment 54, Fig. 6, of. the drawer. The paper roll 44 is removed or replaced by way of lateral grooves 59 after first raising a resilient presser wire 61. The dial bears a reference mark at a predetermined speed and if this speed is exceeded a cam 71 in the speed-hand drive closes electric contacts 75, 76 and illuminates a lamp 77 behind a red signalling plate 83. The drawer, after insertion, may be locked by a key 94. The mechanism is covered by a casing 14 which is detachably secured to the back-plate by internal spring- pressed locking levers operated by screws projecting through the back-plate.
