Revolving-cylinder pumps; valves, arrangement of. - In a pump or engine comprising a rotary drum with axial cylinders in which the pistons are reciprocated by a swash-plate, the pistons are connected by a rocker engaging them through members' in surface contact. The compressor shown comprises a drum 4 rotating on a shaft 5 in a cylindrical casing and formed with cylindrical bores in which pistons 6 are reciprocated by a swash-plate 11, hemispherical shoes 12 being interposed between the pistons and the plate. A rocker 14 mounted on a spherical pivot on the shaft connects the pistons, the engagement of the rocker arms with the pistons being made either by hemispherical shoes 15 interposed between them or by pivot bolts 16 sliding radially in the arms and having eyes 17 engaging transverse bolts 18 in the plungers. The plungers are held up to the swash-plate without interference by heat expansion by a longitudinal adjustment of the shaft, which carries a plate 28 held between bearings 29 within a box 25 which can be screwed to and fro within a sleeve 26. The plate 28 is held in position on the shaft by spacing-sleeves 30. The distributing-member 21, having inlet and outlet ducts 9, 10, backs against an elastic rubber packing 20, thus allowing expansion at this end of the drum.
