Loading-appliances.-Projectiles are transferred from an ammunition hoist D to the breech of the gun by a lifting-tray A which rocks on the axis of the gun trunnions A<x> to align the projectiles with a waiting-tray B on the gun cradle from which they slide end-on to a transversely-rocking loading-tray C which aligns them with the gun breech. The lifting-tray is preferably pivoted near the centre of gravity of the projectile. Safety devices are provided (1) for preventing the control lever A<2> of the hoisting mechanism from being operated to deliver a projectile to the lifting-tray unless the latter is empty and (2) to prevent a projectile passing from the lifting-tray to the waiting-tray unless the latter is empty. Three projectiles are thus permitted to be in a position contiguous to the gun, one in each tray. Specification 175,307 is referred to.
