Abstract
205,912. Lamoureux, J. O. Aug. 1, 1922. Stamp-cancelling machines.-Letters are fed to the cancelling-member in overlapping relation so that only the stamp-bearing portions are printed on. Letters stacked on a table 1 against a partition 5 are fed forward by rollers 6, 7, between a guide 5<a> and spring fingers 14, 15, to feed rollers 21, 22 and thence between the printing- disc 4 and impression roller 35. The rollers 6, 7 are driven at a higher peripheral speed than the rollers 21, 22 and the disc 4, so that the letters reach the disc in overlapping relation. The distance from a side plate 10 on the table 1 to the rollers 21, 22 is approximately the length of the shortest letters to be handled, and to the rollers 4, 35, the length of the longest, the rollers 21, 22 being thrown out of action when the longest letters are being cancelled. The amount of overlap may be varied by altering the relative speeds of the rollers or by varying the pressure against the feed-rollers 6, 7, e.g. by increasing the stack of letters.
