Abstract

205,535. Binns, W., and Mander, J. D. Feb. 27, 1923. Hubs for wheels having fixed axles such as perambulator wheels comprise each a sleeve 2, Fig. 1, fitting the axle 1 and having flanges 14 at each end, one end flange 14 being gripped between a tubular hub shell 5 and one of the end hub flanges 6. The axle is retained in position by a notched disc 9, Fig. 2, engaging a slot in the axle and having a recess 11 by which the disc can be removed from the slot by a tool, when the axle is to be detached. Lubricant is contained within the tube 5 in which is a felt pad 7, lubricating holes 3 being formed in the sleeve 2. A felt end washer 8 prevents escape of lubricant. In a modification the shell 13, Fig. 3, is a push fit in the hub flanges 15, 16 and the lubricating space 19 is filled with lubricant-saturated felt or the like. A slot or perforation 18 allows passage of the lubricant.
