Recoil apparatus.-Relates to apparatus in which the flow of liquid in a recoiling brake cylinder 6 is controlled by a spring-pressed valve 2 the lift of which is limited by a stop 4 automatically adjusted as the gun is elevated. According to the invention, the stop is actuated by a screw 5 which is rotated by a gear 8 adapted to slide during the recoil stroke along a shaft 9 which is rotated as the gun is elevated. As shown in plan in Fig. 2, the shaft 9 is actuated by gearing 11, 12, 13 the. pinion 13 of which is rotated by a rack 14 sliding in the gun cradle under the influence of a cam 18 on the gun carriage.
