Abstract
375,118. Casting-machines. ELEKTRONMETALL GES., Cannstatt, Stuttgart, Germany. Aug. 7, 1931, No. 22445. Convention date, Aug. 28, 1930. [Class 83 (i).] Clamping moulds.-An automatic die-casting machine, operated hydraulically, is provided with mechanism which is actuated by the control mechanism and stops same if there is any danger of some movement occurring while the conditions for safe working are absent. A control cam shaft e, Fig. 1, actuates valves a some of which serve to supply fluid pressure to cylinders x and move pistons 1<1>, 1<2> and pawls i<2>, il to the left just before the valve, which initiates the injection of molten metal into the mould, is opened. If the mould half m has been moved into position against the half o and nozzle plate n an adjustable screw p has pressed down a lever q and the pawl i<1> to which it is connected. If the fluid pressure, holding the mould half m against the plate n, has reached the desired valve it has pressed down a spring- loaded piston r and the pawl i<2> to which it is connected. If either of these pawls have not thus been pulled down its movement to the left pulls a crank-lever g and throws out the driving clutch f. Similarly just before the mould is returned a pawl i<3> is moved to the left by a piston l<3> and stops the machine unless it has been pulled down by a lever v and piston t actuated by fluid exhausted from the metal-injecting cylinder. In a modification all the pawls i<1>, i<2>, i3, Fig. 2, are moved to the left by one piston l and all the pawls are pressed down by cams x<1>, x<2>, x<3> on the shaft e except during the time that any particular pawl may be required to stop the machine when such pawl is released by its cam.
