202,622. Oguti, T. Aug. 17, 1922, [Convention date]. Addition to 190,442. Multiplex signalling.-In a system of multiplex telephony or telegraphy according to the parent Specification, electromagnets of the unipolar type are employed and the moving electromagnets are caused to rotate along and act upon the circular portions of the moving steel wires. Fig. 1 shows one of the wires W4 carried around a series of grooved rollers D4, mounted on a frame A, and around the pulley D<1>4, and acted upon by a stationary electromagnet N, coupled to a telephone transmitter, by a moving electromagnet M4, coupled to the transmitter, and by record eliminating magnet Q. Electromagnet P and receiver R are used for reception. In a modification, the wires are replaced by an endless steel belt W as shown in Figs. 5, 6, M1 - - M4 being the moving electromagnets. Auxiliary pulleys D11 may be provided to cause a greater portion of the belt to lie along the periphery of the pulley D and co-operate with the moving electromagnets.
