Abstract

269,996. Standard Telephones &. Cables, Ltd., (Western Electric Co. Inc.). Feb. 1, 1926. Multiplex systems. - The frequency bands 1 - - 6 used on one carrier wave line A are staggered in relation to the frequency bands used on an adjacent line on lines B, C, as indicated in Fig. 3, in which frequencies are plotted on the horizontal axis. In this way, the important frequencies occurring at the middle of the bands, as indicated in the lower part of the figure, coincide with the gaps between the bands in the adjacent lines, and the effects of crosstalk between the lines is minimized. When a number of lines are supported on the same poles, the lines are placed in the order ABCAB . . ., in order to obtain maximum spacing between the lines using the same frequency bands. Preferably, only the upper or the lower side band is transmitted on the lines, the carrier being suppressed.
