[Class 40 (v).] In a multiplex carrier wave line transmission system the available frequency band is divided into operating bands of equal width, having limits which are integral multiples of their width and each occupied by a useful band corresponding to a telegraph, telephone &c. channel whose width is less than the operating band, in such a manner that foreign frequencies such as harmonics or cross modulation frequencies produced by the currents of greatest amplitude fall in the gaps between the useful bands.
