Abstract

Shaft couplings; shafts.-Pulleys, couplings, collars, and the like of the kind in which hinged halves are secured tightly or loosely on their shafts by screws, the heads of which are sunk in one of the halves, are provided with one or more webs arranged within their end faces. As shown in Fig. 2, the pulley parts a, b are secured by a hinge-pin c and by a screw d, the web f being at the pulley centre. In the form shown in Fig. 4, two webs f, f<1>, one of which may be at the pulley end, fit over channelled bushes k, formed in two 'parts. A single full-length bush, Fig. 8, formed with lubricating channels o and retained in position by loose pins n may be used. The meeting edges of the pulley halves may be formed with thin fillets j, Fig. 5<a>, easily removed by filing, to facilitate exact fitting of the parts. The pulley ends may be fitted with removable rings t, Fig. 10, formed in two hinged parts secured together by screws u to retain the belt in position.
