Abstract

The buffer comprises an elastic cushion (1) which is normally rolled up into a small package and is fixed on to the body structure of the vehicle at the front end of the vehicle in the direction of travel. The cushion communicates via pressure lines (3) and a valve (4) with compressed gas containers (5) arranged in the vehicle so that the cushion can be filled with compressed gas in the event of a collision. The cushion may be wedge shaped in order to push obstructions aside. Cushion inflation may occur automatically or may be initiated by the driver. <IMAGE>
