Abstract

The safety device is for railway vehicles to give a safety exit. The window glass is pressed into a rigid frame fixed to the vehicle frame and held by pressure. In case of accident this pressure can be released, allowing window glass assembly removal. The glass (1) is held in the frame (2), against a seal (4), fitted to the vehicle body. The pressure is obtained by a toggle and claw assembly consisting of a pivoted lever (20), a short link (22) acting on a pivoted claw (12). This is of a self locking type but, in emergency the lever (20) can be operated and the window glass ejected outwards.
