Abstract

Organic tissue is contacted with an aqueous solution of carbon dioxide or a precursor thereof, prior to dehydration by the application of heat and/or reduced pressure, thereby generating gaseous carbon dioxide in the tissue and inhibiting shrinkage during drying.
