Abstract

Timber is proofed against fire by impregnation with ammonium sulphate followed by calcium chloride, or vice versa, to precipitate calcium sulphite in the material. Preferably 20% aqueous solutions are used and the timber is enclosed in a chamber which is evacuated before the admission of each solution and then subjected to an impregnating pressure of 200 p.s.i.
