Abstract

832,933. Impregnating fibreboard with fireretardants, preservatives or resins. HICKSON'S TIMBER IMPREGNATION CO. (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd. March 31, 1958 [July 30, 1957], No. 24156/57. Classes 96 and 140. Fibre-board, which term includes cardboard, is impregnated with an aqueous or non-aqueous liquid by subjecting it in a pressure vessel to an initial superatmospheric gas, e.g. air pressure not greater than 3 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP>, introducing the liquid into the pressure vessel under a greater pressure, but not greater than 7 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP>, and releasing the pressure. Vacuum may be subsequently applied. The impregnant liquid may contain in solution a file-retardant, preservative, or resin capable of imparting dimensional stability or more than one of these. Fireretardant compounds mentioned are monoammonium dihydrogen phosphate, ammonium sulphate, borax and mixtures thereof. Preservative compounds mentioned are disodium arsenate, sodium fluoride, sodium chromate, copper sulphate, and mixtures thereof.
