Abstract

A measuring device incorporated in the reeving system of a jib crane comprises a pulley 16 mounted on a shaft, at least one end of the pulley shaft being supported by at least one pair of angularly-spaced linear force transducers 29, the combined outputs of the transducers being used to provide a signal representative of the resultant radial load applied to the pulley. The reading obtained may be used, for example, to provide an indication to the driver of the load on the crane hook; or as a warning of overload; or as an indication of the radius of the crane hook from the vertical centre line of the crane; or any combination of these. <IMAGE>
