Abstract

1,192,049. Safe load indicators for cranes. B. & A. ENG. CO. Ltd. 5 July, 1968 [6 July, 1967], No. 31273/67. Heading B8B. In a crane in which the jib 1, Fig. 1, is luffed by a hydraulic ram the force applied to a safe load indicator 15 through linkages 16-22 is the component of force applied at right angles to the jib by the ram. The ram is connected to the jib by a crank-shaft 23, Fig. 4, and an eccentric journal 25 in such a way that the centres 27, 28 of the shaft and journal always lie substantially on a common radius with respect to the jib pivot. Extensions of the telescopic jib are fed to a crane radius compensating device 7, Fig. 1, constructed according to Specification 980,132, by a cable, a spring drum 3 and links 4-6. The jib angle is fed to the device 7 by links 8, 9 and the output from the device 7 is connected to the safe load indicator 15, which is constructed as described in Specification 723,070, by links 11, 12, 14. In the indicator 15 the jib length and angle signals are combined with the jib load signal and used to operate an alarm.
