Abstract
At least one light-absorption layer 11, 12 is disposed between a thin electroluminescent film 4 and a counter electrode 13 for absorbing light applied through a transparent electrode 2. The light-absorption layer enhances the contrast of the electroluminescent film. A plurality of light-absorption layers may be used e.g. of Al2O3,Al2O3-x, Mo, Zr, Ti, Y, Ta, Ni or Al with a thickness of 10-300 ANGSTROM . Dielectric layers 3, 5a, 5b are optional. A glass cover 8 and protective liquid 9 may be provided. <IMAGE>
