Abstract

A pair of turbosuperchargers 15, 16 are arranged in parallel with their turbines 13, 14 connected with exhaust lines 11 of the engine and their compressors 17, 18 connected with inlet lines 12 of the engine. A valve 22 between the turbine 14 and the exhaust lines 11 actuated as a function of the pressure in the inlet lines 12 serves to switch in the turbosupercharger 16 at a medium speed of the engine 10 and a blow-off valve 25 permits air from the compressor 18 to blow off until its pressure equals that supplied to the inlet lines 12 by the compressor 17. A check valve 19 prevents pressure from the compressor 17 reaching the compressor 18. In a modification, the valve 22 is responsive to the exhaust pressure in the exhaust lines 11 and the air supplied to the compressor 18 is controlled instead of compressed air from the compressor being blown off. <IMAGE>
