Abstract

A container 10 has an upper circumferential rim 15 and an outwardly extending flange 16 below the rim and a closure has a circumferential recess 30 adapted to receive the rim 15 and snap-over engagement means 34 adapted to engage the flange 16 so that when the container is closed by the closure, the rim is stressed to maintain the closure in positive sealing engagement with the rim. The closure has a pair of radially spaced upwardly extending circumferential walls 27, 26 and the container has a base 12 with a depending circumferential skirt 13 so that when a container is stacked on a closure of a closed lower container, the depending wall 13 of the upper container is received within the inner circumferential wall 26 of the closure of the lower container. The container and closure combination does not require a sealing gasket and can be stacked on similar containers closed by similar closures without any tendancy of toppling of the stack. <IMAGE>
