Abstract

The invention provides a toner for electrostatic photography consisting of particles comprising a coloring agent and a binder resin comprising a terpolymer containing 2 to 80% by weight of units derived from nitrogen- containing heterocyclic vinyl monomer, 5 to 85% by weight of units derived from an aromatic vinyl monomer and 5 to 85% by weight of units derived from an alkyl acylate or methacrylate. The toner is non- agglomerating and has excellent stability and durability of charge characteristics. This toner is suitable for use in a developing method in which an electrostatic latent image formed on a photosensitive surface is developed with a magnetic brush, the toner image is transferred onto a transfer sheet and toner particles left on the photosensitive surface are removed by the magnetic brush to clean the photosensitive surface.
