Abstract

200,874. Evans, G. J. March 20, 1922. Stencilling ; inking-apparatus.-Consists in a stencilling-apparatus of the kind comprising a frame to which the stencil is secured and an inking-roller movable over the frame, in which the roller is coupled to the frame at each end of its movement so that the operator may lift the frame, by means of the roller, from the surface which is being printed. The stencil frame 22, Figs. 1 and 7, is provided with vertical flanges 24 having inwardly extending flanges 30 between which are spaces 32 to provide a passage for rollers or projections 33 on the carriage 28 of the inking-roller 27. When the roller 27 is at either end of its movement, the rollers 33 pass beneath the flanges 30 and couple the carriage 28 to the frame 22. The stencil may comprise a thin sheet 21, provided with the. stencil openings, secured to a stiff border 20 and clamped to the underside of the frame 22 by a frame 23 having vertical side walls 25 terminating in hooks 26 which engage the upper edges of the flanges 24. Pins 34 on the frame 23 engaging holes 35 in the bottom of the frame 22 form gauges to position the stencil. Fig. 10 shows an alternate form of stencil comprising a thin sheet 36 having its ends turned over the ends of the frame 22 and secured thereto by spring clips 38.
