Abstract

In a scrubber for removing impurities including solid hydrates from gases without clogging, gas 40 enters a pressure vessel 19 and passes through a separator, e.g. cyclone tubes 15 and risers 16. Impurities 41,42 accumulate in a storage zone. When they begin to collect in the separator, the pressure drop across the scrubber rises. This is detected by a detector 6 which controls valves 25 to 28 so that an anti-hydrate agent 60 (e.g. methanol) passes from a reservoir 32 and is sprayed through a nozzle 31 over the impurities. The pressure for spraying the agent 60 is provided by the pressure differential between the storage zone and an upstream region of the vessel 19, to which the reservoir 32 is connected through pipe 29. <IMAGE>
