G l a s s furnaces; muffle furnaces ; walls. - In a glassannealing &c. muffle having vertical side wall flues 9, 11 connected by roof flues 10, the heat-transmitting walls 7 between the flues and the muffle chamber are formed in part at least of silicon carbide. As shown the roof and the upper parts of the side walls of the muffle are built up of silicon carbide tiles, and the surrounding walls are of fire-brick and insulating brick.
