Abstract

Strands which are to be assembled together in the manufacture of (e.g.) thick cables or ropes are passed through a stranding apparatus wherein they are held and stranded together in a stretched state while being advanced from a first to a second stranding point. One or more gripping jaw or tong assemblies may be employed to engage the material and revolve while travelling along with it. Strand handle 1a is rotated and advanced by driven chains 6 having strand-gripping jaws 7. <IMAGE>
