In a method of making cables of pre-twisted sectoral conductors, which may be solid or built up of stranded wires, conductors 1 from storage drums 3 are threaded individually through respective shaping devices 5, for pre. twisting, paper lapping heads 8, phase correcting rollers 14, die stand 9 in which they are laid up helically, rotary caterpillar 15, further lapping heads or an extruder 16, and finally to a drum twister 18. Each shaping device may consist of a pair of rollers or a pair of dies or one may be a pair of rollers and the other a pair of dies, and they may be relatively adjustable.
