Abstract

A petrol dispensing nozzle 10 (Figure 2) comprising a petrol dispensing path (conduit 24, valve 20, spout 16) and a displaced vapour recovery path (passage 32, valve 22 and conduit 26) has a short end part (14) articulated to the main nozzle part (12), the end part (14) having a magnet (30) which is switchable, electrically or mechanically, to direct its flux either towards the fillpipe of a vehicle, thereby to cause a seal to abut the fillpipe to prevent the escape of vapour to atmosphere, or away from the direction of the spout and towards a magnet keeper (34). A pressure sensor (38) detects whether or not the end part (14) is sealed against the fillpipe, and causes the filling operation to stop if there is no seal, e.g., by interrupting an electrical circuit (switch 40, figure 9). <IMAGE>
