Wick burners, annular; flame spreaders and deflectors.-An air distributor or flame spreader comprises a tubular central element 10, a second tubular element 30 surrounding it and connected with it at its upper end, the element 30 carrying a flange 35 in spaced relation to the wick and also carrying a third short tubular element or body 40 surrounding it, disposed beneath the flange and fitting within the inner wick tube. The element 30 has openings 77 adjacent to the body and openings 75 in the plane of the space between the flange 35 and an upper flange 26 which forms a top portion 20 secured to the central element. A frame 50 depending from a span member 5 which also supports the spreader has pivotally connected locking elements 51 which are engaged over an abutment 16 of the central element 10 when positioned by a pin 55 slidably supported within the upper end of the central element. When the burner is in use, air currents rise through openings in the span member into the elements 10, 30 and out through openings 70, 75 and the restricted passage between the flanges 35, 26, the resulting thin air stream imparting suitable shape to the flame and shielding the top. Currents which pass into the body portion 40 of the spreader, being deflected by the abutment 16 through openings 77 are mainly directed downwardly beneath the spreader flange by the baffle 60, and the space between the wick and body portion is supplied with air through peripheral openings in the span member for preventing the descent and condensation of vapours therein.
