Abstract
199,899. Richards, V. E. May 15, 1922. Electrolytes; electrodes.-Mercuric acetate is added to the electrolyte or depolarizer of a primary cell, particularly of the dry type employing manganese oxides. Glycerine may also be added. The substances may be introduced bc moistening the depolarizing mixture before moulding with a solution of mercuric acetate and glycerine in water. The depolarizer may consist of manganese dioxide and powdered carbon, or of a mixture of hydrated manganese dioxide, manganese dioxide, manganese sesquioxide which may be hydrated, and carbon, or of hydrated manganese dioxide alone. The electrolyte mav consist of zinc chloride., ammonium chloride, a binder such as starch, and water.
