624,787. Batteries. BURGESS BATTERY CO. Jan. 28, 1947, No. 2672. Convention date, April 3, 1946. [Class 53] The zinc electrode 17 of a dry cell is bent up on two sides 21 and along the bottom to enclose the carbon electrode and depolarizer block on four sides. The two electrodes are separated by an absorbent paper sheet 16 which is shaped similarly to the zinc electrode, the paper sheet and zinc electrode being bent together from superimposed blanks of the shape shown in Fig. 4. The lower corners 24 of the paper separator penetrate and close the spaces between the meeting edges of the turned-up sides and bottom of the zinc electrode. The container of each cell consists as shown in plan in Fig. 5 of a sheet 13 of synthetic resin, rubber or other insulating material which is folded round the bottom and two sides of the depolarizer block 14 and zinc electrode 17, the projecting edges 30 of the sheet being cemented together and folded flat against the cell. The contents of the cell are moistened with a solution of ammonium chloride and zinc chloride and the carbon electrode is tipped with solder to facilitate connection with a lug 22 projecting from the zinc electrode of the adjacent cell. Each zinc electrode is provided with a second projection 23 which passes through the sealing composition of the battery as shown in Fig. 1 and is used for testing purposes. The terminals of the battery consist of sockets 26, 27. Specifications 624,786 and 624,788 are referred to.
