Abstract

199,373. KÚgresse, A. June 13, 1922, [Convention date]. Pulleys.-Relates to driving-wheels of the kind described in Specification 127,322 and comprising two rims which are pressed against the sides of the rib 13 of a T-shaped band or track 14, and consists in automatically adjusting the rims so as to vary the pressure on the endless band by one or two false or supplementary rims placed between the band and the horizontal face of one or both main rims. In one form, Fig. 1, the rim 4 is mounted on the shaft 1 while the rim 5 is mounted on a hub 2 driven by the shaft 1, the hub 2 also carrying a disc 10 with a false rim 11. The disc 10 carries a cam 9 engaged by a similar cam 7 secured in teeth 6 on the shaft 1 by a nut 8, relative movement between the disc 10 and rim 5 causing the rims 4, 5 to act with increased pressure on the rib 13. In a modification, Fig. 2, the rims 4' engage false rims 11<1> mounted on flexible webs 15 carried by the parts 16, 17. The part 17 engages an externally-threaded nut 19 on the hub 2, the threads on the parts 2, 17 being of opposite hand, while stops 18, 20 are secured to the shaft 1 and hub 2. Material is placed between the rims 4<1>, 11<1> to provide less friction than between the rims 11<1> and the rib 13, so that any slip occurring will take place between the rims 4<1>, 11<1> which will press the rims 4<1> together and against the rims 11<1>.
