Regulation, automatic systems and apparatus for.-Consists in a modification of the method of the parent Specification wherein the voltage of a dynamo 1 is kept constant up to a certain output by a variable resistor 34 in series with its shunt coil 5 and beyond that point is reduced so that the dynamo supplies constant current by the excitation of series coils 6 opposed to the shunt coil 5. According to the invention an auxiliary source of E.M.F. such as an exciter 31 mounted on the shaft of the dynamo 1 is connected in series with the resistor 34 and the shunt winding 5. Under normal conditions the resistor 34 is automatically varied by a pilot motor 35, the coil 36 or coil 37 of which is excited from a source 69, 70 according to the position of the contact arm 39 of a voltmeter relay. Under overload conditions, an ammeter relay 42 operates to ensure that the maximum resistance 34 is inserted, and substantially at the same time a voltage relay 73 causes the operation of a switch 26<1> which removes the short circuit from the opposition coil 6.
