Abstract

22,420. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General ELectric Co.]. Oct. 4. Systems depending on the use of two or more machines.-The excitation of a synchronous motor 5 for controlling the power-factor of an alternating-current supply-system 1, 2, 3 is regulated by means of a regulator A of the vibrating type, the contacts 14 of which are mounted on pivoted arms 15, 16, one of which is controlled by a solenoid 18 placed across the exciter 7, while the other is controlled by two potential coils 23, 24 and two current coils 21, 22 acting on two connected cores 20,20<1>. The potential coils 23, 24 act in opposition, and the two current coils 21, 22, fed from a current transformer 27, act in opposition to the coils 23, 24 respectively. The current in the coils 21, 22 is maintained substantially constant by means of a shunt 28, which gives a practically constant drop in voltige across its terminals for wide variations of current passing through it. The regulator A controls the energization of a relay 12 adapted to short-circuit a resistance 10 in the field circuit of the exciter 7.
