Abstract

Circulating or passing materials through fluids and fluid-applying apparatus.-A washing process, for application more particularly to bobbins of artificial silk, consists in subjecting the material to repeated washings of short duration interspersed with centrifugal dryings. During the washing operations the material may be slowly moving or stationary, and in the first case it is preferred that the washing should be continued with the material at rest in order that the washing water may more perfectly impregnate the material. Apparatus for the process comprises a disc wheel 3 mounted on a shaft 2 and provided with pairs of projecting spindles 4 on which bobbins 5 are mounted, being held by catches 6. The disc is driven by an electric motor 9 at high speed during the drying operation through belt gearing 10, and at low speed during washing by the reduction gearing 12, 13, 14. Water is projected on to the bobbins by spray pipes 7.
