Valves controlled from a distance.- A gas controller actuated by varying the pressure in the service mains is provided with a catch actuated by ratchet gear for holding the valve in its raised position. The valve member d is carried by a floating disc e arranged to work in a split cylinder f which is provided with lugs f<1>, f<2> adjustably connected together by a screw g adapted to be rotated from outside the casing by a rod k having its end slotted to engage a cross pin j on the screwed member g. The_space between the lugs is filled in with an indiarubber cushion h protected by a metal plate i, the valve spindle o passes through a guide bridge n carried by a plate m clamped between two parts of the casing and carries a pawl p adapted to engage a ratchet wheel q supported by a bracket r. The ratchet wheel has a series of pins q<2> for moving a pivoted catch into or out of engagement with a projecting rod d<1> carried by the disc e. There are half as many pins as teeth so that the movement of the ratchet wheel first permits engagement and at the next movement disengages the catch.
