Abstract

Gas, supplying by meter.-The valve stem f which is horizontal and in line with the axis of the. prepaymentmechanism carries a stirrup or C-shaped member j adapted to be engaged, to close the valve c against the action of a spring k, by an axially movable sleeve o slidably keyed on spindle p operated by the prepayment mechanism. The sleeve o is threaded internally to engage a screwed intermediate spindle n carrying a worm-wheel q located within the member j and engaging a worm r actuated from the volume recording mechanism of the meter. Rotation of the spindle n causes the sleeve to close the valve. The spindle n has a bearing at one end in a detachable, pillar l located within the stirrup j and forming a stop for its outward movement. A cross piece l<1> guides and prevents rotation of the stirrup. The spindle p is carried by a detachable pillar w and the usual toothed ratchet wheel is secured to it by a pin behind a spring washer, so that the ratchet wheel and spindle can be readily removed and replaced. The disc valve c is housed in a chamber d at the lower end of the inlet pipe, the stem f passing through a detachable gland h having a gas tight washer h'.
