Counters actuated by revolving mechanism; stop mechanism.-In a gas meter in which the inlet valve is operated to shut off the supply of gas after the passage of a quantity of gas indicated by a pointer moving over a graduated dial, an adjustable stop is provided to arrest the movement of the pointer at a predetermined point and thereby prevent the meter being set by an unauthorized person to pass gas in excess of a predetermined quantity. In the device shown, a worm c<1> on a spindle c, which is rotated by the movement of the bellows, drives a worm-wheel c<2> on a spindle a<1> carrying a pointer a moving over a graduated dial b. The pointer a is set initially in contact with a stop pin d<1> on an adjustable pointer d after moving its spindle a' against the resistance of a spring c<3> to disengage the worm-wheel c<2> from the worm c<1>. As gas passes through the meter the pointer a rotates in an anticlockwise direction until it reaches the zero position, when a slotted disc c<4> operates a crank c<5> controlling the inlet valve. The pointer d is secured adjustably to the meter casing by a hollow screwed stud e operated by a tommy and the pointer a is secured to the spindle a<1> by a nut a<2>. In modifications, the pointer d is adjustably secured to the meter casing by a pinching screw or is carried by a sleeve fitted with a worm engaging a worm-wheel secured in the meter casing. The worm may be turned to adjust the position of the pointer d by means of a key of the " Bramah " pattern.
