Abstract

198,343. Continuous Transit Co., (Assignees of Putnam, H. St. C.). May 23, 1922, [Convention date]. Transferring articles and persons to or from trains and other conveyances in motion.-Passengers, goods, &c. are transferred to an endless platform, running continuously at a relatively high speed by means of auxiliary platforms 20, 2, Fig. 1, driven at slower speeds or by a rotary platform 24, Fig. 6. Each element of the platforms 1, 2, 20 has a longitudinal supporting member 2, Fig. 4, carrying at one end the axle 3 of wheels 4, and at the other means 5 for receiving and being pivotally connected to the axle of the next element. The end 10 of each element is formed as a circular recess to receive the curved end 9 of the next element. The annular platform 24, Fig. 6, rotates about a stationary platform 25, and is provided with curved guide rails 26. A guard rail 30, Fig. 3, prevents passengers boarding the platform 1, except at places where a member 33 attached to the suspension chains 34 is depressed by a cam 32. The platforms aredriven in the manner described in Specification 197,653.
